Grant for Gallo
After exhibiting in Washington, USA, Alessandro Gallo is awarded with the 1st prize for a grant of the Groot Foundation. With this grant Alessandro Gallo wants to realize a work in the atmosphere of the work he has shown on the Venice biennale. This involved a installation of pending figures in a subway station.
Since the manifestion Focus in Terra 2011 is Gallo's work included in the collection of the Terra Delft Gallery. On the art fair KunstRAI 2012 there will also be a work of him shown with this gallery. All ceramic statues are painted with acrylics and very detailed done. The human figures with animal heads are always in everyday attitudes and situations. Other materials are often added to complete the sculptures
The donkey is proverbially stupid, stubborn and hard working. The horse is noble and elegant, the dog loyal. When transferring appearances and attributed characteristics into human figures, they absorb the core of the character in a very comical manner. In both his ceramic sculptures and his drawings and paintings, he places the hybrids in everyday urban environments. They sit on a bench, in the Metro, on a swing, or are being shaven by the barber. Such depictions question our relationship with the natural world.
