Annamaria Kedves is a Hungarian-Romanian architect, artist, and ceramist. She lives with her family in Rhenen and works in a ceramics studio in Amersfoort.
She enjoys working with experimental processes and techniques that create their own patterns and outcomes. She makes paintings on large decorative wall panels and tiles inspired by subjects she encounters in nature. In doing so, she plays with the unpredictability of applying layers of colored and pure porcelain slips and pigments.
The base always consists of black or white stoneware clay, decorated with liquid porcelain using techniques such as sgraffito, stenciling, and reserving. Sometimes multiple layers are applied and then scraped away to achieve the desired effect. Finally, the pieces are always finished with a lead-free transparent glaze and fired at 1240°C. The high firing temperature ensures a robust and strong final product.
