- 2026; participant Common Ground, a world in ceramics, Terra 40! Old Church Delft
In his tile panels and vases, Adeoti Azeez Afeez unites two traditions: the 7,000-year-old sgraffito decoration technique (carving graphic patterns into wet clay) and the rich West African Yoruba culture (700-1000) with bronze sculptures, wooden masks, beads, and ceramics.
As a contemporary artist, Afeez draws and shades in layers of terra cotta clay, covered with engobe, liquid clay. This reveals an underlying, usually contrasting color.
As a recurring theme, Afeez creates psychologically charged (self-)portraits that look at you boldly and self-consciously.
