Chinese ambassadeur en burgemeester Delft openen keramiekfestival

On Saturday 14 May, the ceramics festival on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of Terra Delft Gallery is opened by Mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt and the Chinese Ambassador to the Netherlands Tan Jian in the Oude Kerk in Delft.

The opening was heralded by a parade in which the 'Majiayao's horse' was carried into the church accompanied by Chinese singing by Saskia Pfaeltzer, one of the exhibitors. The surprising effect of this unusual entrance was reflected in the faces of the art-loving public.

The exhibition in the Oude Kerk 'Echo of Majiayao' consists of 60 works of art created by a group of 14 artists from nine countries who, under the direction of Simone Haak, owner of Galerie Terra Delft and curator of this exhibition, will become an artist-in-residence in 2019. project have done Majiayao located in north-west China. With a ceramics history dating back more than 5,000 years, the Majiayao culture is an important element in the origins of Chinese civilization.

Van Bijsterveldt praised the gallery for its tireless initiatives to put contemporary ceramics, and with it the city of Delft, on the international map. Tan Jian called this exhibition a fine example of time travel and the creation of an intercultural dialogue between civilizations.

This ceramics festival contains several elements. The 'Echo of Majiayao' shows a rich variety of ceramic works of art, from figurative images to abstract sculptures. The work will be displayed in a spacious and accessible manner in the Oude Kerk in Delft until June 25. The exhibition '36 Vase Parade' in Terra Delft Gallery can be seen until 2 July and is composed of 36 vases made by 11 renowned artists.
